Marseille
Marseille is the second city of France and is directly on the Mediterranean. Walk to the old city centre, ‘Le Panier’, via the beautiful old harbour, ‘Le Vieux Port’, and wander around lovely old streets. Visit Notre-Dame de la Garde with panoramic views across the entire city or go to the Vélodrome, the Olympique Marseille stadium.
By car, you can get to the city centre in about 30 minutes.
Cassis
Cassis is a small, but very bubbling harbour town about 20 minutes from the B&B. Cassis has a pleasant centre with shops. Most restaurants can be found at the seaside. Apart from the many boats and jetties you will also find a lovely beach here. When you leave the town there is no avoiding the vineyards. Of course, wine can be bought at the supermarket, but do as the locals do and buy your wine directly from the wine estate.
The Calanques
Between Marseille and Cassis you will find possibly the most beautiful nature reserve of France: The Calanques. This National Park offers incredible biodiversity. The park can be visited on foot as well as by boat. Boats depart daily from the harbours of Marseille and Cassis.
You can enjoy great views at several places or take a dip into the sea. There are walking routes available, but the tracks are rough, so good walking boots are required. The nearest starting point of the -in my view- most beautiful walking route is in Cassis, a 20–30-minute drive away from the B&B.
Aix-en-Provence
Aix-en-Provence is a lively city, focused on tourism. The centre offers many beautiful little streets and old squares with fountains. On Saturday’s there is a big market that is really worth visiting. Obviously, there are many shops, restaurants and bars. Aix-en-Provence is a 40-minute drive away from the B&B.
La Sainte-Baume
As mentioned before, you walk or cycle straight from the garden into the National Park. However, the massive knows many routes and entrances. There are many different locations from where you can start your trip.
